“The Starvefish” by Katy Evans-Bush

By Ernest Hilbert • July 18, 2011 • Feature, Poetry

The starvefish sunbathes on the
sand, its
underside, its suckered
palm in-
capable beyond the
reach of
what is underneath the
beach. What-
ever graspable, what
blood runs
calmly, redly through the
earth, what
channels there, what proteins
lurk be-
tween the star and Austra-
lee they
lurk sequestered in the
dark mys-
terious beneath light
leech, all
hidden from this burning
hand.
