“Si Non Te Veo Feliche Morte” (“If I Don’t Ever See You, Die Happy”)

By Cynthia • January 23, 2012 • Feature

I want to twist the Latin phrase above to If I don’t ever HEAR you, die happy: I think it would be “si non te audo feliche morte.”

One of my favorite word sites, savethewords.org,  has gone dark just like many of the obscure and archaic words that it tried to save.  We did a post on it a while back

.

However, the internet, like language itself, is a living thing.  I have found an amazing site that allows you to really search and play with words called More Words:

Great for word games like scrabble, jumble, crosswords, anagrams, etc. Search for words just by letter combinations and you will get instant answers that would have taken hours or days to figure out.

It is only fitting that we send off those lost words with a song, Sweet Honey in the Rock’s adaptation of a poem by Birago Diop. Imagine, if you can, the following lyrics sung in delicate four-part harmony:

Those who have died have never never left
The dead have a pact with the living
They are in the woman’s breast
They are in the wailing child
They are with us in the home
They are with us in the crowd
The dead have a pact with the living . . .

‘Tis the ancestors’ breath
In the voice of the waters
