It doesn’t save the world, but Prince’s performance of “Purple Rain” at the end of Purple Rain is so incredibly good that it’s the only time I’ve ever come close to being convinced that, yes, a great rock show really can solve a disparate mess of seemingly insoluble problems. He just tears that room up.
