“The Curfew Tolls” by Miles Burrows

By Ernest Hilbert • June 5, 2013 • E-Verse Universe

Henry and Margaret were buying an old church.
Henry said it had a Wow factor.
He liked itmore than he could say.
He could put his computer room in the old chancel, was it?
The staircases were top spec. Fantastic floors.
Margaret was not put off by the graveyard at all
And certainly could do something with it
To make it match up to their requirements.
She could just see her guests gazing up to where
The architect had put the granny flat
While preserving the pulpit as conversation piece.
The font was wittily converted to a shower
And in the mezzanine stained glass at knee level was a definite plus.
The leper hole made a convenient serving hatch.
The only problem was: it was a semi.
You could either own the tower or the graveyard.
Tough choice: or could they stretch to both?
