“God Forbid You Should Follow Your Dreams”: Check Out the Rock Film Losers Take All

By Ernest Hilbert • January 6, 2014 • Feature

My good friend Winn Coslick and I were roommates in a crazy old tin-ceilinged loft in a cast-iron building on Howard Street, in SoHo, New York back in the late 90s. We squandered a lot of time back then sitting around playing guitars and listening to vinyl records, but he’s since gone on to write and produce a number of very good music-related films, including his latest rock venture, Losers Take All, chosen by Kevin Smith for his movie club. Smith declares “This movie is wonderful, man! It takes you right back to a period where Americans were making music in their basement . . . pre-grunge, even. And it’s got a killer soundtrack!” For more information, including original music and links to interviews about the film on Huffington Post Live and WNYC’s Soundcheck, visit www.loserstakeall.com.

LOSERS TAKE ALL, presented by the Kevin Smith Movie Club, is a raucous, irreverent rock & roll comedy in which we follow fictional indie rock band “The Fingers” as they stumble their way in the opposite direction of success—commercial or otherwise. Or so they think. As it happens, it’s 1986 and the mainstream is eager to embrace the D.I.Y. sounds of the underground, whether the bands like it or not . . .

Add it to your Netflix queue!

Check it out on iTunes.

Dave: We do suck in the grand scheme of things.

Vicky: The grand scheme of things is Huey Lewis and the News. Which you guys aren’t, thank God.

Greg Glaverman: She’s right. You’re not Huey Lewis or the News.
