Artist’s Statement:

“My current body of work is a continuation of a pursuit of the real view as it is experienced through movement and the conscious and unconscious process of seeing. In the course of our moment-to-moment choreography, what our eye actually perceives is a brilliant array of sweeping abstracted images. Verticals and horizontals are bent, fragmented and distorted in our peripheral vision into diagonal thrusts forming abstract views which occupy much of our visual process. My paintings attempt to ‘freeze frame’ these visual sweeps and to document the unconscious visual journey we take as we move across our field of vision. The work here is executed in an abstract expressionist vocabulary governed by drawing. Color is nonobjective but infused with the light and shadow of daylight. The push and pull between the painterly gesture and the drawn line suggests the texture and form of the real view. To observe, register and execute this array of visual phenomena is my current primary interest as a painter.”
