Use Kickstarter Help Film “The Best Reading and After-Party Ever!”

By Ernest Hilbert • January 22, 2013 • Feature

G.M. Palmer and others are working on a new project to help capture and preserve readings by poets. You may click here to donate. He explains:

The Best Reading and After-Party Ever! is where the best poets and writers read and relax. Help us film it and spread the word!

Launched: Jan 9, 2013

Funding ends: Jan 27, 2013

Last year my friends and I (with the help of Gold Line Press and USC) began The Best Reading and After-Party Ever! series in Chicago, concurrent with our favorite writing conference. We were a dozen readers, a hundred bodies, and ten thousand words in a gorgeous Chicago condo having the time of our lives. Unfortunately, the only record of the event outside our memories are some shaky cellphone videos on YouTube.I am determined that this year’s experience will be better preserved. To that end, I have engaged the services of a videographer. I’d love, however, his work to become documentary in nature–not only chronicling the reading but also giving insights into the poets, the process, and the party. So I come to you, Kickstarters–help us throw and document the greatest poetry and prose party Boston has ever seen and get some amazing rewards in the process! This year’s readers are (in first name order):

Annie Finch

Erica Dawson

G.M. Palmer (me)

Heather O’Neill

Jessica Piazza

Michael Bobbitt

Nick Courtright

Rebecca Lindenberg

Tara Skurtu

Thaddeus Gunn

Our biggest challenge will be making sure we can have a party and reading experience and still provide adequate sound and lighting for the video. Indeed, this requirement is the biggest reason to seek crowdfunding through Kickstarter. After the project is funded and the poems and stories have been read, our greatest challenge will be producing and distributing a product that does justice to the work of these great artists. I believe this challenge is surmountable and I pledge to keep in close contact with all supporters to let them know of any snags or delays.
