5. The Philadelphia Experiment: a mysterious military project during WWII during which the US Navy tapped into world-destroying forces according to the most fanciful accounts of what is almost certainly an urban legend. Also a 1984 movie based on the Charles Berlitz book.

4. Signs (2002): Alien invasion in a Philadelphia suburb!

3. Night of the Living Dead (1968): The zombie apocalypse takes place outside of Philadelphia! Not really that surprising.

2. Twelve Monkeys (1995): Those monkeys? From the Philadelphia Zoo (America’s oldest zoo)!

1. The Passage (2010, book by Justin Cronin): In the new, acclaimed best-seller, Philadelphia is the last city affected (because the author lived here for 11 years as a creative writing professor at La Salle and likes the city a lot).
