But what is the original image? Is it possible they were all based on “La LibertĂ© guidant le peuple,” the painting by Eugène Delacroix, commemorating the July Revolution of 1830?
Nope, we’re getting too intellectual here. It turns out that Tom Jung, who designed the Star Wars poster, has admitted that he was going for an Earl Norem look. Here is the classic Earl Norem he had in mind. Note that the skull looming in the background inspired Darth Vader’s helmet in the Star Wars poster.
Are there more examples of this style out there?

I hate to be “that guy”, that “comic book guy”, but…
I wish you would make sure to revise the text of the last paragraph to give credit to the artist who painted the last image: Earl Norem.
A wonderful artist in all ways, but he is not Frazetta.
Peace!
:-)
