Top Five List of Top Ten Lists
by Paul on 18/08/10 at 10:52 pm
Here at E-Verse, we get a little obsessed with lists. Our Top Fives are a staple and certainly more efficient than the top tens or twenty lists. Who has so much time these days to read a top twenty? TIme and Newsweek have been big on lists over the past few years and it looks like the Huff Post is jumping on the bandwagon with all their wacky lists as well.
There’s a deeper list devil that exists however, in the similarly-named-to-this-blog listverse.com. Oh the Top 10 Lists You Can Think Of! So we’re compiling a list of our 5 list of top 10 listverse list subjects and pick an example from each for your edification.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken my kit off for the sake of E-Verse and fortunately we’ve got a full list of other folks who are more than willing to do so. From this list we like Juan “lucky” Baptista dos Santos who actually had not one but two penises which apparently came in handy “An 1865 report stated that Santos used both penises during intercourse and, after finishing with one he would continue with the other.”
4. Top 10 Extremely Weird Religions
Many may argue that all religions are weird but there are still some that are just a little more “out there” than others. Sure Scientology probably comes to mind but amazingly there are others so ludicrous that they can be indeed be deemed “extremely weird”. While I have a definite affinity with the “Church of the SubGenius” I have an even greater one with the “Prince Philip Movement”. Having actually met Phil and been to Vanuatu I feel like a kinship with the Movement described as “a cargo cult of the Yaohnanen tribe on the southern island of Tanna in Vanuatu.” who have determined that he is the son of their legends. I didn’t quite get that vibe but we did just shake hands so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
3. Top 10 Common Myths About Cannabis
One of the more popular posts we have done here on E-Verse is the Top 5 Marijuana Strains sent in by an E-Verse contributor who seemed well-versed in the subject. So to those who discovered E-Verse from that post, we offer the top cannabis myths. Rumor has it that cannabis is highly addictive but according to statistics only “a tiny minority develop what appears to be a dependence and rely on the assistance of drug rehabilitation services to stop smoking”. So there.
Many of us feel that there is an answer for everything (you know who you are Mr. Know-It-All) and more often than not there are answers, we just haven’t been able to figure them out. Some have dedicated their lives to trying to solve some of these riddles and many have devised elaborate hoaxes to provide proof (BTW Biigfoot and Loch Ness made a second list). The sheer number of folks who want to believe that The Shroud of Turin is the burial cloth of Jesus and the obvious controversy surrounding it certainly warrants its #1 slot.

1. Top 10 Most Disturbing Novels
Well we are a literary blog so it’s fitting that our #1 would have something to do with literature. While many of you will question the fact that some items on this list can be classified as literature (meow) there are some entertaining reads and this has inspired me to grab Haunted and scare the poop out of myself. For me, as a 17 year old I felt like I had outgrown my Stephen King obsession but when Misery came out, it went out with a bang so I have fond memories of that one, followed by Tim Winton’s Bugalugs Bum Thief. No-one wants to have their bum stolen. That’s disturbing.
