It’s no secret that the social ideal for women has been getting skinnier over the years. Here are five cases of fictional women who have been altered over the years to make them conform to the new ideals.

5. Venus of Venice: This is a well-known mural from Venice, California. You can see what it originally looked like by renting the excellent Steve Martin movie L.A. Story, which has a scene in front of it. Some years later, the mural was redone, with a significantly skinnier Venus.
