The movie Ted, currently in theaters, stars Mark Wahlberg as a man whose childhood teddy bear comes to life and hangs around long after he’s wanted, like some giant fuzzy id. The concept of a doll that has come to life has been around at least since Pygmalion. So how about some other dolls that have come to life? Let’s have a look.

5. Chucky (1988-2004): The quintessential horror movie doll!

4. Trilogy of Terror (1975, TV): This terrified me as a little kid. It’s still scary! [Scared the hell out of me! - E]

3. Twilight Zone episode “The Dummy” (1962): It’s impossible to look at a mannequin without thinking of this tale. On the other hand, Joss Whedon brilliantly played with such expectations in a season 1 Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode.

2. Pinocchio (1940)

1. The TV show Supernatural (2005) did an episode with a teddy bear that comes to life and behaves quite inappropriately, that came out several years before Ted.

You left off “Talking Tina,” an old Twilight Zone Episode with Telly Savalis. Scared the crap out of me as a kid. But she does remain a doll, though she talks to Telly and, in the end, kills him.
