Some Honeymoon Pics

For those who haven’t heard, Lynn and I were married on October 20th. We left the next day for 10 days in Greece. Here are a few pictures of our island hopping.
Here we are, happy as clams to be out of Philadelphia and in the Greek islands.

At the Acropolis in Athens.

At the ancient palace of Knossos on Crete, just south of Iraklion.

Then we rented a car and tore up the mountain passes into the interior of Crete.

After an hour of white-knuckle driving—dodging goat herds, falling boulders, and giant trucks along a perilous sequence of hair-raising hair-pin turns—Lynn decided it looked fun and wanted to drive for a while.

We came upon a roadside attraction halfway up a mountain called “The Museum of the Homo Sapiens,” a truly strange little tourist trap. I snapped a photo of Lynn in the “throne.” We bought t-shirts too.

Ms. Makowsky at the Minoan ruins of Gournia.

Elsewhere on Crete, we came across some really corny clubs that were closed for the season, such as “The Camelot Club” . . . .

And “Crazy Shark!”

A cat named Anna slept in the display case at a jewelry shop called “Lena.” Hotels were closed, so we stayed above the jewelry shop.

View from the balcony that night.

And of course the food was all delicious, as was the ouzo, as you can tell from my glazed expression.

We then took ship to Santorini, formerly Thera, the remains of the island that blew up and by all accounts destroyed Minoan civilization. Although it’s impossible to get anywhere on Santorini during the summer season, it was pleasantly deserted when we got there.

We stayed at the Hotel Keti, which hangs precariously over the volcano’s caldera.

View from the bathroom window.

We swam around some small islands.

Lynn about to dive in as the sun plummets into the autumn ocean.

The next day we hauled the little Fiat all the way up to the Greek and Roman ruins at Thera. It was a hell of a view even with the gray rain and wind.

We then lifted anchor and sailed over to Naxos, the largest of the Cyclades. We drove inland, parked in a meadow, and climbed up to see the giant Kouroi in the pastures there.

We also visited the magnificent Temple of Demeter in the middle of a thousand olive groves.

More boozing.

A Naxian mackerel cat.

The view from our last hotel room on Naxos . . . . then home to Philadelphia. Ah, home sweet home.
