From the promoter:

Roll up, roll up! This is your second and last chance to hear Ernest Hilbert (of the Contemporary Poetry Review and E-Verse Radio) read in London this year.

As Ernie’s first collection is called (and, indeed, is) Sixty Sonnets, this evening we will Reclaim the Sonnet, Stoke Newington-style! Lemon Monkey is a new venue with an evening license and delicious food.

A sonnet (possibly a Shakespeare’s 99th) of sonneteers will read either one or two poems each. Some are formalists, others less so, and one or two frankly experimental. Ernie himself invented the Hilbertian Sonnet which some US poets are now adopting.

We say: “If you say it’s a sonnet, it’s a sonnet. But you have to mean it.” Lemon Monkey Café is just by the end of Church Street, 2 mins walk from Stoke Newington main line station (from Liverpool St via Bethnal Green), and a short bus ride from Seven Sisters tube (Victoria Line).

Buses: 73, 476, 149, 67,76, 243,106

Let’s make N16 safe for sonnets!

Ernie

Ernest Hilbert is founder of E-Verse Radio.
