Off to the Rockies!

By the time this post goes live I will have finished a late-night “beer” reading at Earth and managed to get up at 5AM to fly out for Denver. I may be yonder over your head at this very moment. From Denver I’ll be driven by a genuine madman five hours up to Crested Butte/Gunnison, where I’ll deliver a poetry reading at the Gunnison Arts Center on Friday evening. Saturday I give a paper titled “A Strange and Beautiful Noise: The Ashbery Syndrome, or, Listening without Hearing” at the first annual Western State National Poetry Conference. Sunday, I’ve been threatened with a hike up to West Maroon Pass (I don’t like the word “maroon” in there). I’m told it’s the largest wildflower field in the Rockies. I walked down to the Army/Navy store and bought a pair of boots, just in case . . .
While I’m away, Paul may put down his beer long enough to post something. But then again, perhaps not. We are in the deep Sargasso of summer now, after all.
My airplane read? Better than Sex (Gonzo Papers Volume Four) by Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. iPod? Four Faces albums, three by Warren Zevon, and Darkness on the Edge of Town, just to keep a bit of Jersey summer shore with me on my inland trek.
