They lie side by side
Her hand in his,
No hound at their feet
But a restless cat
That prowls the duvet
Until it discovers
The crook of his spare
Extended arm.

Two effigies, remembering
How they would wake
And turn to each other
When her body allowed,
But visited now
By a phantom embrace
No less hungry in love
Than they ever were.
