Ann says: “Some of my favorites have already been mentioned by other Everse contributors, but here’s my list.”

5. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by Bruce Springsteen: Of course, “The wind is whippin’ down the boardwalk . . .”

4. “Baby It’s Cold Outside/Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!” by Dean Martin: Two separate songs that belong together. Often covered, but Dean Martin is the Rat Pack, and no one matches his holiday seduction songs (no irony at all). You can hear the ice clinking in the glasses and smell the cigarette smoke.

3. “Merry Christmas Darling” by The Carpenters: I’m a child of ’70s AM pop and I’ve always loved Karen Carpenter’s voice. Melancholy Christmas at its best.

2. “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” by Ella Fitzgerald: More wistful, slightly sad Christmas music. I hope he said yes.

1. “Blue Christmas” by Elvis: An obvious choice but my all-time favorite Christmas song. It puts me in the holiday mood every year.
