5. Dr. Dog: Baroque pop band, and big Philadelphia favorites. The height of cool.

4. Three Dog Night: Major 1960s and 1970s rock band, most famous for “Joy to the World” and the slightly less sappy “Momma Told Me Not to Come.” Should be more influential then they have been.

3. Fleet Foxes: Dreamy Seattle folk rock act that took over the world for a year or so and then went into semi-retirement to grow soft beards.

2. Britny Fox: Philadelphia glam rockers who rode onto MTV on the coattails of Cinderella, who rode the coattails of Bon Jovi, who road the coattails of Bruce . . . oh you get the point. Still had a great tune with “Girls’ School.”

1. Howlin’ Wolf: Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910–January 10, 1976) is better known as the legendary blues musician Howlin’ Wolf, from Mississippi. Major player with too many excellent tunes to name.
